Director of Accounting
The Director of Accounting is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all accounting operations and ensuring the financial health and integrity of the company. This role involves managing financial reporting, accounting functions, internal controls, and compliance with financial regulations. The Director of Accounting works closely with the CFO, executive team, and other departments to align accounting strategies with business objectives, and ensure accurate, timely financial data and reports.
Tasks:
- Oversee accounting operations: Manage the day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
- Financial reporting: Ensure the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Manage audits and compliance: Lead internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), and other relevant standards.
- Implement internal controls: Develop and implement internal controls and processes to safeguard company assets and ensure financial accuracy.
- Budgeting and forecasting: Collaborate with the finance team to prepare annual budgets and financial forecasts, monitoring performance and adjusting as needed.
- Tax compliance: Ensure timely and accurate preparation of tax filings and compliance with tax laws, including corporate, VAT, and other applicable taxes.
- Cash flow management: Monitor cash flow and liquidity to ensure the company maintains financial stability and has the necessary resources for operational needs and growth.
- Team leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, providing guidance and support to ensure high levels of performance, accuracy, and professionalism.
- Financial analysis and strategy: Provide financial analysis and recommendations to senior leadership, supporting business decision-making and strategy development.
- Process improvements: Identify and implement process improvements and efficiencies in accounting systems, workflows, and reporting tools.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with other departments (e.g., finance, legal, operations) to align financial strategies and ensure financial health across the company.
- Risk management: Identify financial risks and work with senior leadership to mitigate them through appropriate planning and action.
Requirements:
- Education: A degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or equivalent is required.
- Experience: 8+ years of progressive experience in accounting, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership or managerial role.
- Technical skills: Strong knowledge of accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP) and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Financial regulations: Deep understanding of financial regulations, GAAP, tax laws, and compliance requirements.
- Leadership skills: Proven ability to lead and develop teams, with experience in managing accounting departments and driving results.
- Strategic thinking: Strong analytical skills and the ability to provide strategic financial insights and recommendations to senior management.
- Communication skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Attention to detail: Strong attention to detail with the ability to ensure accuracy and consistency in all financial reports and activities.
- Problem-solving skills: Ability to address complex accounting and financial challenges and provide effective solutions.
- Time management: Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively, with a focus on delivering results in a fast-paced environment.
- Confidentiality: High level of integrity and the ability to handle sensitive financial information with discretion and confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in SaaS or technology industry: Familiarity with the accounting practices specific to the tech or SaaS industry is a plus.
- Experience with ERP systems: Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as Oracle or NetSuite is highly desirable.
- Experience with international finance: Experience managing accounting and financial processes across multiple countries and currencies is a plus.
- Advanced degree: A Master’s in Accounting, Finance, or MBA with a focus on accounting is preferred.
- Project management skills: Experience in leading projects or initiatives that improve accounting processes, efficiency, or system upgrades.
